3 Insane Benefits of Lemon Water to Improve Sinus Health

…and The Sinus Survival Trade-in Program

By Dan Gay, President, Sinus Survival

It’s hard to believe, but the inexpensive lemon can be one of your top healthy trade-ins, which can improve your sinus and overall health in many, many ways.

1). Lemons are an immune-boosting gift from mother nature

Lemons contain antibacterial, antiviral, and immune-boosting properties. They contain over 7 vitamins and 8 important minerals including citric acid, calcium, magnesium, bioflavonoids, and are a good source of thiamin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, and iron.

It’s no secret that lemons have vitamin C, but did you know that one large lemon provides 82mg of vitamin C or 139% of your RDA? Even a small lemon is at least 50% of your RDA. Give your immune system a boost by squeezing a slice of lemon and adding it to your water throughout the day.

2). Improves pH for healthy cells where fungal sinusitis can’t thrive

Surprisingly lemons help your system to increase your pH from an acidic pH (low pH) to a higher pH (alkaline). Our bodies are constantly struggling to keep our blood pH between 7.35 and 7.45. We are acid-producing machines: stress produces acids, negative emotions produce acids, and much of what we drink and eat are highly acidic. To counterbalance this, our systems will steal vital nutrients like magnesium, potassium, and calcium from ligaments, joints, bones and organs leaving us feeling inflamed, achy, and exposed to health risks. Soft drinks, beer, processed foods, sweets, and the S.A.D. diet (the standard American diet) are high in acid and low in alkalinity.

On the pH scale 0 is acidic and 14 is alkaline. The healthy blood range is 7.35 to 7.45. Anything less than 7.35 can create a condition called acidosis, which can be fatal. Cola is a 2.0 on the scale, beer and artificial sweeteners are 2.5. Many processed foods are less than 6 and dairy and meat are acidic. Lemons, on the other hand, are a 10! Vegetables and fruits are usually an 8 or higher.

Many disease states thrive in an acidic environment, another reason to eat your fruits and vegetables and to add lemons to your daily routine! Cancer and candida have both been linked to an acidic pH balance.

Over 90% of chronic sinusitis cases are usually linked with a serious candida fungal overgrowth. Why? Past antibiotic use kills off the healthy flora which keeps candida in check. This healthy flora also helps to provides the important pH balance role in our body and the ability to absorb nutrients to fuel your adventures. Candida will then thrive on the S.A.D. diet and in an acidic environment. It’s the perfect storm for candida overgrowth and a future with chronic sinus issues that never seem to really go away. Symptoms include fatigue and feeling like one is living in a fog, in addition to the classic sinus issues of post-nasal drip, headaches, sinus pain, etc.

If you have chronic sinusitis, follow the online Breakthrough Sinus Program to take the right steps to putting the right pieces back in place to feel like yourself again (click here to find out more). One quick routine to add is lemon water in the a.m. and trade-in lemon water for soft drinks during the day!

3). Improves digestion and a natural detoxification

Most naturopathic doctors practice the following routine religiously. It was an Ayurveda practice from hundreds of years ago, which is still an important health practice today. Take ½ a lemon and squeeze it into a ½ a glass of warm water. Drink it 30 minutes before eating. That’s easy.

This practice primes the liver to produce bile, which is used in digestion. It provides relief from indigestion, heartburn, bloating, and even belching.

Lemons are a natural detoxifier which promotes flushing unwanted materials and toxins from the body. It also stimulates bowel movements and has been shown to be an excellent weight loss aid. Just remember though, always brush your teeth after drinking anything acidic to prevent unwanted dentist visits!

The simple solution – my daily practice

  • Start every morning with a ½ a lemon squeezed into a warm glass or cup of water 30 minutes before you eat.
  • Trade-in all sugary soft drinks for a squeezed lemon in water (lemon wedge).
  • Try to have some lemon water before you eat, if possible.

With a ½ a lemon before breakfast, 2 or 3 lemon slices added to water during lunch and dinner, and kicking the soft drink habit, you’ve covered your vitamin C need and primed your digestion, lowered your unhealthy sugar intake, kick-started one detox element, and provided an immunity boost that we all need.

Now that’s easy!
